1950's Hair Extensions

First clip- in extentions were used on the actor Gregory Peck on the set of Warner Brothers Moby Dick in 1950's. He played the role of Captain Ahab and they wanted to make the actor look older, so they asked a wig specialist company in London to create removable grey hair pieces that they can use in the film. The company created 'hair flashes' that could be added onto his hair with spirit gum and removed every day.
One day, a female assistant borrowed the hair piece for a dance and suddenly, they became the "new Vogue". Soon, salons all over America and the UK offered hair flashes to their customers.

This is a video that Sharon posted in our Facebook group. It is an advert for hair extentions from cca. 1955.
Hair stylist Bertam Goodwin showcases the latest offer in his salon and shows us how to wear the hair pieces. He offers his model, South American actress Alicia Lotti, to choose between a couple of colours; red, yellow, green, blue and blonde. To glue the hair flashes he used spirit gum. He used a pointed brush to apply the product onto the lace and her root. Goodwin is trying to show his future customers how to style the hair flased with their outfits. Alicia chose yellow flashes to go with her blue dress.
To show how easy it is to apply these flashes, later in the clip we see a woman putting them on herself.
At the end of the video they mention prices for hair, in case anyone wants to sell theirs, which I found quite funny.
