I am still learning how to knot. For now I can say that it's really hard. I'd say that it's like an emotional rollercoaster. I take a piece of hair with the hook, pull it through, under and over and hope for the best, really. I can either knot two, three, four hairs at once, and be so proud of myself and happy, or it literally takes me 10 minutes fiddling with one hair and I get really stressed about and just give up and take another one.
Sometimes I manage to get only one side of the hair through (you have to get both for it to go in the same direction) and I just leave it as it is. Honestly, I got so frustrated at one point that I would use the hook only to pull the hair through the lact and then I'd tie a knot by hand. Very slow process, but at least every hair stays on.
They told us that it is best to take a few hairs in your hand, put them on the lace, take some more, and so on, but for now I'm only taking one by one. Some strands of hair are darker and some are lighter so I tend to go for the darker ones as it is easier to see them and they are slightly thicker. None of them have snapped yet.
Lighting is very very important so I put my lamp as close as possible. This is the first time in a long time that I've been reaching for my glasses. I never really wear them but they help because my eyes really start to sting and hurt if I don't wear them.
These images show my progress throughout the weekend - from our knotting lesson that was on Oct 9 to Sunday, Oct 11. I've been knotting three days for about 3 hours every day.
