In the 50's these hairstyles became popular because they were easy and practical, yet classy and they a good way of keeping you hair out of the face. I'd assume that now women spend more time creating these hairstyles because they want the perfect rolls and curls. Also, these hairstyles are used to go out rather than to keep the hair up while working in a factory or cleaning the house.
There are two things I've noticed that make these hairstyles contemporary. First is the lenght of the hair; 50's hair way usually up to the shoulders, now it is longer. For some hairstyles, waves and curls are kept but they are more 'messy', not brushed out into one big wave/curl, while in others hair is almost straight.

50's hairstyles were versatile in the 50's, so I feel like there are a lot of options and different designs I can create. I want to keep the front of the hair historical and do the victory rolls again, but I want to make the rest of the hair very contemporary. The period hairstyle I will create will be up, so that I don't have to cut the hair as I want to have more hair to create this look.
